Northern Virginia has more data centers than anywhere else in the world, including more than a fifth of the worldwide total of hyperscale facilities, and developers are moving south to the Richmond region.
Why Virginia? Here are some reasons:

Telecommunications
Northern Virginia has the highest density of fiber networks in the world. Highcapacity fiber connections run along Interstate 95 and to Virginia Beach, where three subsea cables land and connect the United States with Europe and South America.
Electricity
Virginia’s electricity rates for large industrial customers, including the largest data centers, are 7.35% below the national average. Virginia’s approach to regulation means the price of power is less volatile here than in states to the north that have deregulated electric rates.
